MKK holds Anniversary AECSD Summit

Istanbul, October 2-4, 2024: the Summit of the Association of Eurasian Central Securities Depositories (AECSD) and the Africa and Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA) " Building the Future of the Capital Markets in Eurasia, the Middle East, and Africa: The Role of CSDs" was held. The event marked the 20th anniversary of the AECSD.

The official organizer of the event was the Central Depository of the Republic of Türkiye- Merkezi Kayıt Kuruluşu A.Ş. (MKK). The event was sponsored by almost 20 local and global service companies, depositories, banks, analytical and rating agencies, whose representatives also provided their expertise as speakers of the event. The summit was attended by over 200 guests from more than 40 countries, which became a record among all AECSD events. The opening ceremony included address by high-ranking officials of the Republic of Türkiye.

The first day was dedicated to high-level panels discussing the strengthening of cross-border and interregional cooperation, the role of central depositories in the digital era, as well as promising new services and products. On the second day of the conference, expert presentations and panel discussions focused on the issues of risk management, corporate governance and services aimed at investors, as well as the exchange of best practices and best practices were presented.

The Annual General Meeting of the AECSD was also held on the sidelines of the Summit and adopted a number of important decisions, including giving the green light for signing the Memorandum of Understanding with AMEDA during the special ceremony of the Summit and the approval of a new version of the Association's Resolution, which was the result of several years of discussions. Among other changes, the new version of the Resolution extends the term of office of the Chairman of the Association to two years, provides an opportunity for central counterparties and other financial market infrastructure organizations to become Associate Members of the AECSD, and also introduces the order of rotation of the post of Chairman and Host of the AECSD Conference. The General Meeting also welcomed the new Member of the Association - the Central Depository of Indonesia, KSEI.

The Annual General Meeting next year will be held on the sidelines of the WFC Conference in Almaty (September 24-26, 2025), and an extraordinary Annual General Meeting is also planned for the next year, which will be held as part of the AECSD Educational Seminar in Moscow. The next Conference of the Association will be held in Istanbul in 2026 in conjunction with the ACG Conference.

The AECSD International Conference is an annual event that brings together a large number of specialists and the expert community interested in financial market issues. The Conference serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas on the development and expansion of depository activities, as well as provides an opportunity for depositories and stakeholders in the Eurasian region to exchange information and experience.
